Tubes are looking very wintery now but will grow again in the Spring!
Wahlenbergia gracilis, the Small Native Bluebell, is a delicate graceful small herb which can be erect or sprawling in growth, occasionally reaching 80cm but mostly lower. Each of its pretty pale blue flowers are only 5-6mm across, and held singly on the end of the stalk, but it can flower profusely through spring and summer and when established can make a beautiful display, especially in clumps or drifts. It grows in full sun or part shade. It is very hardy, tolerating frost, drought and poor soils, and can self seed well.
We also currently have stock of Wahlenbergia communis, a tufted perennial to 40cm by 30cm wide, best planted in clumps, in moist well-drained soil in full sun through to full shade! Flowering for a long period over the warmer months, this plant is frost and shade tolerant but may die back in drought, but once it is established, it will reshoot from the taproot.
