This is a most beautiful showpiece T-tree with flowers of 20 - 30 mm diameter.  During flowering in spring the white, sometimes yellow, petals are surrounded by red sepals. In Autumn the capsules are 10 - 15 mm in diameter.  

The 7 - 10 mm obovate leaves appear rusty red maturing to deep green during the year.

This is a plant that occurs solely in the Upper Mountains, on sandy soil. It is a hardy shrub which prefers full sun or partial shade and can grow to 1.5 - 2 metres but will remain smaller and bushy with rigorous tip pruning. It may be pruned severely if necessary
