This attractive fern has beautiful bright pink new growth which matures to green. The fronds, which are covered in small bumps which give them their rough texture, will grow up to 40cm each, so the clump is generally only half the size of the other very common Blue Mountains Fern, the Blechnum nudum. It grows in rainforest margins and in moist forest in dappled light, but can tolerate full sun if it has adequate moisture. It will grow in most acidic soil types with some humus and reasonable drainage. Having short spreading rhizomes makes it suitable as a groundcover.
