The Proteaceae are an amazing family of plants. In Banksia spinulosa the leaves are long and thin, 1-2mm wide and 5-10cm long. The edges are recurved, the under side white and the tips are notched with a few small teeth at the end. It is slow growing but will grow consistently if happy and will form a very nice shrub after a few years. May grow to 2 metres tall in a garden (although this will take time) so allow some space. Plant in a well-drained soil for best results – sandy to loam, it should thrive if planted on a slight slope.
Flowering during late autumn and early winter, they bring lovely bright splashes to the bush and garden when little else is flowering.
