The familiar Old Man Banksia, with its rugged bark, long serrated leaves, large flowers and woody seed cones, can grow 2-12m high. Frost hardy and tolerant of most soils, it does need good drainage. Its greenish yellow flowers open from summer through into the winter and attract and feed many birds and insects.
