This small Banksia is ideal for the home garden as it rarely if ever grows more than 2 metres tall and can be pruned to keep a compact shape. It likes an open sunny well drained position with good drainage. Although its Latin name suggests swamps, it doesn't like to have wet feet, like all plants in the Proteaceae family. Be careful to only use very low phosphorus fertilizer, a light mulch only, and keep grass away from the trunk.

The leaves are stiff and leathery and are white underneath. The flowers are golden yellow and very attractive to insects and birds.
